Frequently Asked Questions

What is sports massage?

Sports massage is a hands-on treatment that helps relieve muscle tension, improve movement and support recovery from physical stress or injury. It may involve firm pressure, stretching and movement techniques, all tailored to what your body needs on the day. Despite the name, it’s not just for athletes, it’s effective for anyone dealing with muscular aches, stiffness or postural strain.

Do I need a sports or deep tissue massage?

You don’t need to decide in advance. During your session, I’ll assess what’s going on and adapt the treatment accordingly. Labels like “sports” or “deep tissue” are general terms, what matters is choosing the right approach for your body.

How often should I have a sports massage?

This depends on your goals and symptoms. A single session may be enough for short-term tension, while longer-standing issues often benefit from multiple treatments. For general maintenance, many clients book every four to six weeks.

Is sports massage painful?

While it can feel more intense than a relaxation massage, treatment should never be painful. Pressure is always adjusted to your comfort level.

Are there side effects after treatment?

You may experience mild soreness or fatigue, which usually settles within a day or two. Please see the post-treatment care page for more information.

Can I exercise after a sports massage?

Light activity is fine, but it’s best to avoid intense training immediately after treatment to allow your body time to recover.

What should I do if I feel sore after treatment?

Mild soreness can be normal after treatment and usually settles within 24–48 hours. You will be given aftercare advice to help manage this, such as hydration, gentle movement, or recovery strategies.

Will I need to undress?

Only the area being treated may need to be exposed. Your comfort and dignity are always respected, and towels are used at all times.

Do I need to share medical information before my session?

Yes. It’s important to disclose any medical conditions, injuries or recent surgeries so treatment can be carried out safely.

Is the service run from home?

Yes. Treatments are provided from a dedicated, professional treatment room in the garden. The space is clean, private, and set up specifically for clinical sports therapy sessions.

Is the home clinic professional and safe?

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on the condition, severity, and individual response to treatment. Some clients feel improvement after one session, while others benefit from a short treatment plan.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows movement. Depending on the area being treated, you may be asked to expose the area (for example, shorts for leg treatment). Towels will always be used to maintain dignity.
